It can be challenging to get into the spirit of Tu Bishvat when it's bitter cold outside. Here's a project that will bring growth and nature to the day - even in the middle of a North American winter. It takes just 3 weeks from start to finish.
How to Assemble Your Plant:
1) Soak the rockwool cubes in water for 24 hours.
2) Insert 2 seeds into the hole on top of a rockwool cube and pinch the hole closed
3) Place the rockwool in a 2 lb plastic container and close the lid
4) After 2-3 days, tiny sprouts should show up in the rockwool.
5) Put the rockwool into a mesh cup, and fill in the gaps with clay pebbles
6) Cut a hole the size of the mesh cup into the lid of the 2 lb container
7) Fill the container with regular sink water.
8) Add the nutrients to the water and mix
9) Close the lid
10) Place the mesh cup into the hole on the lid. Make sure the cup is slightly touching the water.
11) Place the container in a black plastic bag, leaving the mesh cup and rockwool exposed to the light. This is to prevent the growth of fungus on the water.
12) Place the plant somewhere that is:
Cool - room temperature should not exceed 70 degrees
Exposed to either sunshine or any fluorescent lighting.
