Chanukah · Make it together
Chanukah Party Projects
Chanukah 5787 begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, 2026, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12.

Tissue Paper Menorah
Draw a big menorah on oaktag and let the kids glue tissue paper squares all over it. Don't forget yellow for the flames.
One menorah, many little hands.

Dreidel Spin Art
Dip the point of a dreidel in paint and spin it across the paper. Every color leaves its own trail, and the painting goes home.
Dip, spin, paint.

DIY Dreidel Piñata
Turn a shipping box, four paper triangles and fringed crepe paper into a dreidel piñata. Fill it with treats and break it open at the party.
Build it, fill it, break it.
Plan the project
One project, the whole table.

Pick the project
Choose the tissue paper menorah, dreidel spin art or the DIY dreidel piñata, check the supplies on each page and order whatever you're missing. The piñata takes two or three hours plus drying, so build it this week.
Pick one and order the supplies.
Set up the table
Draw a big menorah on oaktag, cut the tissue squares, pour the paint and put out a bowl of water for rinsing dreidels. Fill the piñata and hang it.
Oaktag, squares, paint, piñata.
Make it together
Glue the menorah, spin the dreidels and leave the paintings flat to dry while the games go on. Break the piñata last.
Glue, spin, then break the piñata.

Making it together
Before you set up
What is the easiest project for a big group?
The tissue paper menorah. Draw one big menorah on a large sheet of oaktag, cut a pile of colored tissue paper squares, and let everyone glue them on at once. Keep the yellow squares for the flames.
See the tissue paper menorah →Which dreidels work best for spin art?
Either kind. Plastic ones are cheap and easy to rinse, so a whole table can paint at once; wooden ones spin a little longer and make a nice keepsake. It suits ages 3 to 6 and takes about half an hour.
See dreidel spin art →What do we do with the spin art paintings?
Let them dry flat, then hang them up or use them as a card or wrapping paper for a Chanukah gift.
Can we make our own dreidel piñata?
Yes. Our step-by-step page shows how to build one from a shipping box, paper triangles and fringed crepe paper, with a photo for every step. Count on two or three hours plus drying time, so make it before the party; kids from about 6 can do the fringing and gluing.
